So I launched a new Youtube Channel…
It’s really a labor of love and is intended as an educational platform along the lines of the Architect as a Master Builder.
I graduated from Tufts Architectural in 2002 and shortly thereafter worked in an international design studio. It quickly became apparent to me that I was completely overloaded with theory and markedly lacking in practical knowledge relating to actually building.
To intelligently and accurately design – one must know how to build. This is a simple, practical truth.
I took a job as a carpenter to teach myself how to actually build.
This was…humbling.
However it was necessary, and I am extremely glad that I did.
I was forced into action–to learn, to actually do and create with my own hands.
I delved deeply into the industry that creates the built environment and was shocked by the artificial divide that has been created between those who design and those who build in today’s world.
Why are these so distinctly separate?
Architects, Interior Designers, Construction Managers, Landscape Architects, Landscape Contractors, Contractors, Builders….
All now distinct disciplines in today’s world.
Sometimes well planned and coordinated—but often not.
But this is not how it has always been—in fact the Architect for thousands of years was known as a Master Builder, fully responsible for every aspect of a project from conceptual design through artisan build…down to the very last nail.
We’ve had many clients come to us after investing 5 to 6 figures in architectural plans that when later bid out to contractors came to a projected cost FAR beyond their project budget—essentially rendering the client unable to proceed.
This current fractured scene of an architect’s role now being primarily planning and design, while another determines cost–and yet another builds often results in overruns in time and budget and extreme stress on the client who is left attempting to manage it all.
This has resulted in an industry of home design and remodeling ranking second in client dissatisfaction only to the automobile industry…
I thoroughly researched the subject for years, studying many texts, researching, interviewing pioneers and opinion leaders in the field, as well as commissioning a series of original architectural photographs in Egypt (ancient Kemet).
I have written and published my first book and am mid my second on the subject.

NEDC was born from my desire to create a company that would honor the legacy of the Architect as a Master Builder.
I wanted our clients to experience a completely different experience in home design and remodeling.
We are not yet perfect, but after nearly 20 years our creativity, service and product quality are exceptional.
I wanted to launch a YouTube channel to have a platform from which I can help educate others on basic truths I have studied in my journey to understand the origins of the Architect and the powerful simplicity that is the role of the Architect/Master Builder (same thing originally). My goal is to unite the industry the creates the built environment towards a more sustainable, successful, happier future for all.
We are just beginning, but I’d be honored if you’d subscribe and follow along with me here:
