Carpenter’s work space while framing this North End addition
Nestled in a quiet alleyway in the beautiful North End is a hidden gem of a home that we are lucky to be providing a new addition. For this project, our clients wish to enclose around 400 square feet of their existing roof to use as a new master bedroom and bath, while moving their existing roof deck up one level. This change enables them to provide more room for their expanding family, while maintaining the existing character of the neighborhood. The existing home is actually surrounded on 3 sides by buildings that are taller than it is, so the expansion won’t impact any views that the other residents have.

No Storage!
I visited the site to take a look around, and got to see how much space the new addition will provide to its residents. I climbed up the pretty narrow existing staircase to the new space and was rewarded with views of our Lead Carpenter Ryan with another carpenter Mike and our electrician working on the framing of the master-bedroom-to-be. I got to take a look around, and Ryan talked a little bit about the challenges of getting the construction materials in to the site from the street. Like the South End roof renovation, we had to use a crane to haul things up over the roof.
Towards the end of the project, we will actually have to lift the master bedroom furniture up by crane as well, in order to get it in the room!
