At New England Design & Construction we are a vibrant team of 25 or so architects, interior designers and project managers with a passion for sustainable design and a deep appreciation for the legacy of the Architect as a Master Builder.

We aim to provide our clients with an experience that is utterly different from anything else currently available in this industry of home design and remodeling.
I am passionate about and deeply proud of each member of our team. I have built NEDC over 20 years after graduating from Tufts Architectural and it is truly an honor to work with, lead, be helped by and learn from each.

Caitlin is a graduate of the Boston Architectural College with a bachelor’s in interior architecture. From a young age, she has been known to be crafty and creative, which led her into a design-based career. With experience in residential interior design, she enjoys helping clients tailor their interior finishes selection into a concept that is customized to their unique lifestyle and personal aesthetic. Caitlin is an ASID (American Society of Interior Design) member.

Caitlin is a dynamic member of our NEDC team and I am very proud to have her! She is a cheerful, positive and energetic part of our design team with a huge heart. She consistently goes the extra miles for our clients and was the key team player coordinating and organizing a recent community project we did with the Room to Dream Foundation in Brockton, MA to completely transform the room of a deserving underprivileged youth. Caitlin was the driving force and designer on this to a beautiful and meaningful result for this family.

This is an introduction to Caitlin Kazunas, our Interior Design Coordinator here at New England Design & Construction:

WHERE DID YOU GROW UP AND WHAT WERE YOUR INTERESTS?

I grew up in Western Massachusetts in the small town of Southampton. I really love the outdoors whether I am relaxing, hiking, biking, kayaking etc. The reality is, most people spend the majority of their lives indoors. Because of this, I relate strongly to my interior surroundings. I like to feel cozy and homey while incorporating bright colors and fun patterns.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO DESIGN?

I was always a crafty kid. I loved art class and doing projects at home with my friends and siblings. Beyond craft materials, my creativity extended into organizing my toys and rearranging my bedroom frequently. Naturally all my favorite shows were on HGTV. I loved the creativity of the designers when they saw an existing home and had a vision on how to improve it. My favorite parts were the little touches of detail from the décor to special hidden features.

WHERE DID YOU GO TO SCHOOL?

After a year at my local community college, I transferred to Boston Architectural College where I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in interior architecture. The curriculum led me through history, theory, and practice of design and material. What made BAC appeal to me was their practice department deeply woven into the school’s culture. The faculty are both teaching and working in the field. There were endless connections with the number of people you come in contact with.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT THIS PROFESSION AND CRAFT?  WHAT IS IMPORTANT TO YOU?

As opposed to commercial design, residential design is more personal and intimate when working with clients. I love how personal the process is of getting to know them, their needs, and their style.

WHAT IS YOUR ROLE AT NEDC?

At NEDC, I am the Interior Design Coordinator. I propose the initial design board of the style of the finishes for the scope of the projects. I also take the lead during our shopping visits with the clients. I assist in the ordering and delivery of the projects on site.

WHAT DO YOU DRAW INSPIRATION FROM?

I typically draw inspiration from the clients’ existing home. We want to make sure that whatever renovation job we do feels cohesive to the home. If you have a traditional colonial home, we don’t have to juxtapose it by creating a modern room. We like to preserve the justice of the homes’ architecture while improving the client’s daily life with our design intervention!
